What is a pinhole camera?
A pinhole camera is a camera without a lens but with a tiny operator. A pinhole camera is effectively a light proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through the operator and projects an image on the opposite side of the box, which is known as the camera obscure effect. Ibn Al-Haytham invented the first pinhole camera to demonstrate how light can be used to project an image onto a flat surface. A pinhole camera forces every point of light in the scene to form a small point on the film. Pinhole cameras are are of the simplest and oldest types of cameras. |
